Unihertz Atom: The Smallest 4G Rugged Smartphone
We are all in love with the new flagship smartphones in the market that are getting bigger in size, a bit complicated and also very fragile. We love the look of it and sometimes also the way it is useful. But not all those huge smartphones meet all our requirements at times. Also, we get tired of carrying around those big screens in our pockets all the time. Most of those smartphones, even though are very pleasing to look at, fail to meet the demands of an active outdoor lifestyle. This is where Atom scores a goal.
Developed by Unihertz
Atom is developed by a Chinese company, Unihertz, which is based in Shanghai. Unihertz had previously designed Jelly and now they are carrying a similar concept and pushing their limits in order to offer us Atom. Atom is a compact, IP68 certified outdoor phone which also offers 4G compatibility. The phone is not just waterproof, but it is also dustproof and shockproof. All these qualities of Atom make it the perfect phone for an outdoor adventure.
Runs on Android 8.1 Oreo
Just because it is compact in size, doesn’t mean it is not powerful enough. The power of Atom doesn’t diminish with its size. Atom runs on Android 8.1 Oreo. It includes an Octa-core CPU, NFC features, fingerprint scanner, and also Corning Gorilla Glass. It has a 2.4-inch display and weighs only 108 grams. Atom comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage.
About the hardware
The Atom comes encased in black rubber with red highlights on the corners, and there is also a PTT button. It has also got huge bezels on all sides. There is a 3.55 mm headphone jack found at the top of the phone. The power button and push-to-talk buttons will be on the right side of the phone. While the two volume buttons and the SIM card slots will be on the left side.
Supports speedy 4G
Dual SIM card has now become a standard feature for most Android phones. But the secondary card mostly operates on a comparatively slower GSM network. But Atom doesn’t work like that. Atom has the capability to support both the SIM cards on an extremely speedy 4G network. Atom has been tested on most of the major mobile carriers and it works on over any 4G network.
A fingerprint scanner
There is also a programmable key on the phone. It works as a shortcut button for all your favourite functions. The programmable key allows you to take photos, set alarms, opening a particular app, or any other function that you would like to open in a simple press. The fingerprint scanner provides ultimate security to the phone and data stored inside. It also makes it quick and easy to unlock the phone’s screen in order to take important calls or capturing a moment in one of the high-quality cameras.
Powerful cameras
The NFC features on Atom allows you to make payments conveniently and instantly. You can make payments on the go, to thousands of retailers and online stores. Atom is also USB OTG compatible. It helps you transfer data, photos etc to other devices very quickly. Atom comes with a 2000 mAh battery. Atom features an 8 MP front camera and a 16 MP rear camera. Both these cameras are of amazing quality.
Available on Kickstarter
Atom is an all-function smartphone in a tiny size. It is perfect to carry with you while you are out on a hike, or biking, or running. Unihertz also offers 3 useful accessories so that you can carry it more conveniently. There is a bike mound, armband and belt clip.
