LG’s New W7 OLED TV is as Thin as a Wallpaper
LG is pushing really hard at CES 2017 and has launched its signature W7 series of OLED screens at a perfect time. LG’s new flagship OLED TV line can do something LCD TVs will never be able to do. It delivers a 65-inch 4K image on a screen that’s slim and flexible enough, which means, you can bend it a bit or mount it onto a wall. It has got a clever magnetic mounting system which means that you can peel the screen off the wall again much more easily.
Ultrathin, But No Sacrifice
The 65-inch model weighs just 18 pounds while the 77-inch version weighs 27 pounds. That’s less than many 32-inch LCDs, light enough to attach just about anywhere, without worrying about in-wall studs or weight limits. LG includes a special flush-mounting plate. Its top screws into the wall as usual, while the bottom sticks to the wall with magnets. It’s even flexible enough to peel slightly away, if for no other reason than to blow your visitors’ minds. With LCD-based televisions, going ultrathin often means sacrificing image quality, but according to LG the W7 will share the same image quality as its other 2017 OLED TVs.
W7 with Spectacular Color & Sound
- Perfect black: LG OLED pixels create their own light, and can switch off to achieve truly perfect black levels with zero light bleed, providing the foundation for displaying the lush, vibrant color that only LG OLED TV can deliver.
- Dolby sound: The fusion of advanced image and sound transforms your TV into an entertainment powerhouse. LG W7 OLED TV is the first TV of its kind that brings both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos together. From state-of-the-art theaters to the home: With Dolby Atmos, sounds can move anywhere, including above the listener for the ultimate in surround audio. Experience Dolby Atmos through the TV speakers, or pass through to a compatible home theater system for the full experience.
- Active HDR: Active HDR analyzes and optimizes HDR10 content scene-by-scene for an even more striking, more breathtaking High Dynamic Range experience. It also supports Dolby Vision and the new backward-compatible HLG HDR standard, that assures compatibility with the most HDR content from streaming.
- Wide Viewing Angle: Optimal picture quality, the cinematic color and infinite contrast of LG OLED TV can be held up even from wide angles, so now everyone on the couch will have an ideal viewing experience.
OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. It’s a display technology found in phone and laptop screens too. Only LG makes large screen sizes with that technology. LG’s OLED TVs deliver the best picture quality. It beats LCD sets from Samsung, Sony, and others.
Wallpaper Design
The LG SIGNATURE W7 OLED TV features a “Wallpaper” design. It is so impossibly thin and light that it attaches to the wall while delivering unbelievable color and contrast, plus active HDR with 4K resolution. It kind of seems impossible that such bright, natural, detailed pictures could be coming from a TV that’s so thin it essentially doesn’t feel like it’s there.
Shipping in March
LG will begin shipping these 65-inch sized TVs in March for $8,000. It will also be available in a 77-inch variant, but the pricing and specifications haven’t been cleared yet.
