JLab’s New Headphones Come with a Retro Style but a Modern Sound
JLab’s new Rewind Retro headphone is in the market and they are quite in demand. These headphones are wireless and come with Bluetooth. These will definitely remind you of the foam-earpad headphones that were available with the early 80s Sony Walkman cassette player. Going retro with the new JLab Rewind headphones will be fun. It will take you back in time to when dirt, long hair, bright colors and flaunting around your Walkman was the thing to do. The only difference will be that the new JLab Rewind Retro headphones are wireless.
Now we have a lot of options for on-ear headphones in the market. Every major brand has their best headphones out there. But those are also very high-priced if you noticed. It’s hard to comprehend just how iconic and how much of a status symbol the Sony Walkman headphones were. They truly were a sign of style and being cool.
Wireless design and build
There were three key materials for the old on-ear headphones. First was the plastic for the supra-aural earcups. Then metal for the not-terribly-comfortable headband. Finally, the foam for the slightly more comfortable earpads. JLab has been true to it and managed to recreate these central basic design choices.
In addition to this, there are tiny, flat, cables. These run the distance between each ear enclosure and an entry point to the headband. The fit is secure and lightweight. Surprisingly, it is also slightly more comfortable than the originals.
Controllers on the sides
You will notice there are also on-ear controls. The outer panel of the right earpiece is a button. It controls playback and call management, track navigation, and voice assistance. There are no volume controls on the headphones. The slot for the charging cable is on the right side on the outer panel. It is slightly hidden by the foam. The enclosures swivel a bit in order to adjust to your head. This motion will also allow for the cable to connect.
Battery life
JLab claims the headphones get roughly 12 hours of battery life. But the result will depend on your volume levels. The headphones manage to pump out significantly more bass depth than the ’80s originals did. They deliver clean, full-sounding bass depth.
Radical EQ3 sound
JLab’s new headphones are equipped with the radical EQ3 setting. It lets you change the sound to your preferred tune via the headphone, so your music sounds just right. You get to choose between three options: JLab Signature, Balanced, and Bass Boost.
Smart voice assistant
The Rewind Retro headphones do look like the 80s headphones, but it has adopted a few sensibilities of the modern headphone. It comes with a digital MEMS built-in microphone. You double-click on it, and it lets you activate and deactivate SIRI, Google Assistant, or other voice assistant prompts easily.
Extra set of earpads
For just $20, JLab offers you a very cool-looking wireless tribute to the ’80s Walkman headphones. The Rewind Retro headphones are available in three colors: black, blue, and white. JLab offers an extra set of black foam earpads. The orange pair is the default option. You can also find an all-blue pair available, and a long micro USB charging cable.
