Nintendo is Launching Its New 2DS XL System in July
The Nintendo 3DS cluster of systems will soon be adding a new member to the group. Nintendo has just recently unveiled the 2DS XL. It is a halfway house between the kid-friendly and budget-friendly 2DS and the more expensive New 3DS XL. The New Nintendo 2DS XL system offers you a third choice of hand-held systems. The new 2DS XL offers pricing and features that fit between the Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL systems.
It’s a new Nintendo 3DS XL. It has regularly released new hardware variants on its 3DS systems since 2011. 2DS XL looks like one of the most affordable larger-screen one of the troupe.
A Traditional Design.
The 2DS XL features the same upgraded hardware and second analogue nub as the New 3DS XL. This means it can handle more technically challenging games like Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. But it ditches the seldom-used 3D glasses-free functionality. That was the handheld’s biggest selling point at launch. It also ditches the odd, robust wedge form factor of the 2DS in favor of a more traditional design.
Amiibo Support.
Tap an amiibo figure to the near-field communication reader on the lower screen. Then you can enjoy amiibo features in compatible games. Get bonus items or content, customize your character. You will find out more when you use amiibo figures with compatible games.
More Controls.
The C Stick brings enhanced controls like intuitive camera control to compatible games. While the ZL and ZR buttons give you plenty of options.
Things It Can Do:
- The new 2DS XL plays Nintendo DS and 3DS games.
- It still has a stylus.
- 2DS XL has the same extra buttons and second mini-analog control stick as the New 3DS systems.
- 2DS XL can play SNES games on the Nintendo eShop. This is something that older 3DS and 2DS systems couldn’t do.
- It also supports Amiibo via NFC.
- 2DS XL boasts a more ergonomic design.
- Nintendo claims faster load times and extra parental controls for software.
Runs A Massive Library of Games.
The system is lighter but still packs the same power as New 3DS XL. 2DS XL has a built-in NFC support for amiibo cards and figures. On 2DS XL, you can run the huge library of quality 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS and DS games in 2D. Nintendo systems are also the only dedicated video game systems where you can find your favorite characters and game franchises. That includes games like Mario, Peach, Yoshi, Kirby, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda.
Coming Out in July.
The 2DS XL looks much like its more expensive counterpart. Except for a few small design tweaks. Those include relocating the front-facing camera to the hinge. Also, some curvier corners. People in the UK and Japan will be able to choose one in black/turquoise or white/orange colors. While in the US, you only get the black/turquoise option. The new Nintendo 2DS XL costs $150 and is coming out on July 28, this year.
