Apple’s WWDC Event is Here and Has a Lot of Surprises For You
Apple’s WWDC 2017 developer event has been announced. The WWDC event by Apple is a major event where it announces the latest updates to the software running on its products. This summer, Apple brings together thousands of brilliant minds representing many diverse perspectives, passions, and talents to help us change the world. Apple believes that technology must cross with the liberal arts and the humanities. This is necessary to create new ideas and experiences that push society forward. Because technology alone is not enough.
Will Be Held Next Month.
This year, Apple’s famous week-long WWDC event is going to be held from 5-9 June 2017. The event will be held at the McEnery Convention Centre in San Jose, California. Oh, by the way, you can also get confirmation of the dates and venue by asking Siri. You can expect Apple to host an opening press conference and keynote speech on the first night. At 10 am Pacific time, or 6 pm UK time. In this, it will showcase the latest versions of iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS. It will then be followed by a week of developer training courses and awards ceremonies. Those interested in attending can do so. But the training courses are quite expensive. Also, the tickets are usually distributed by a peculiar kind of lottery. It is one where you still have to pay if you win.
Tickets Distributed By Lottery.
Tickets to WWDC are distributed by lottery. Registration for the lottery had opened on Monday 27 March and closed on Friday 31 March. Members of the Apple Developer Program or Apple Developer Enterprise Program were eligible for the registration. Each year, Apple resells a number of unclaimed tickets after the lottery. Apple also offers free entry to WWDC. The winners of the Scholarship program also get an accommodation for the week. You need to be a registered Apple developer and engaged in part-time or full-time education, in order to qualify for this. Also, submit a Swift Playground.
The Reason Behind The Lottery.
Back in 2012, all the WWDC tickets were sold out within two hours of being released. Developers had no prior warning from the company about the event. So in 2013, Apple decided to let developers know in advance when the WWDC tickets for that particular year would go on sale. It took only two minutes for the tickets to sell out at the time of release. This left, even more, developers feeling angry. Thus, a new approach was needed.
So, in 2014, Apple took a completely different approach to its ticket sales. Apple offered everyone a chance to win the chance to buy a ticket by registering for a lottery, instead of issuing the tickets on a ‘first come first served’ basis. Even if you win the lottery ticket, you will still have to pay to attend WWDC 2017. Those selected to attend WWDC last year were charged $1,599.
