Acer Aspire S24: An Ultra-thin PC With Qi Wireless Charger
Acer’s Aspire S24 once made the focus return on the world PCs with a stylishly designed PC which offers us a really refreshing shift from the heavier ones with thick bezel bulky screens. It is as thin as 0.235 inches which are just enough to hold on.
If the super-slim screen of this awesome PC is one big offering from the company, there is also powerful performance and specs we need to speak of with equal respect. It is one of the PCs that perfectly balances value with exceptional aesthetic value. Aspire S24 not only looks premium but delivers equally premium-grade features.
Eye soothing aesthetics
While most PCs boast of almost the same bulk in their design and do not mind aesthetics too much, this new Acer offering is a refreshing shift. Acer’s Aspire S24 which already bagged a few design awards offers almost a bezel-free ultra slim display following the design aesthetics of smartphones to a great extent. The 3.8-inch panel surrounded only by 0.106-inch bezels gives the screen an awesome 90-percent screen-to-body ratio.
On the other hand, the display is only 0.235-inches thick and at a glance, you cannot really find the space for your webcam. But, you don’t need to worry. Acer still found a nice way to fit the webcam. The panel comes in matte gold accent colour which enhances the premium feel even more.
If you are really indignant to find fault with this new Acer PC, you can detect the wireless keyboard and mouse to be a little plasticky and cheap in feel. That’s one petty downside of this stunning Acer offering.
The base will charge your phone wirelessly
Acer’s Aspire S24 is compact and low footprint PC with a smaller than laptop footprint at the base. The 13.5 x 7.5-inch base apart from meeting the design aesthetics of the new PC also allows easy wireless charging of the smartphones. Just put your smartphones on the base and automatically the charging starts. The wireless charging feature of the base also follows Qi standard and this means all your smartphones ranging from Google Pixel to iPhone X are compatible to get the charge from this.
It is balanced but not a “top of the shelf” PC
Let us make one thing clear. The new Acer Aspire S24 is fairly balanced in performance and power but don’t expect it to be as powerful as the iMac Pro.
The PC is loaded with 8th generation Core i5-8250U processor which is known for its power efficiency and Intel UHD 620 GPU. Sadly, the GPU is not enough for high-end gaming and complex tasks such as video editing. On storage and RAM front, Acer Aspire S24 comes with a 12GB DDR4 RAM and 1TB of storage.
The screen is far less satisfactory
When it comes to the screen, the new PC seems not to meet satisfaction level. It just offers a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution which is not 4K. The most discrediting fact is the screen doesn’t offer touch support which is a serious lacking at a time when touch support is the order of the day for many PCs and laptops. Acer Aspire S24 comes with an HDMI output an HDMI input allowing you to connect any other external display. The best thing is, of course, the stunning colourful display with wider viewing angles.
Connectivity is ahead of many competitors
When it is about connectivity, Acer Aspire S24 looks brilliant. Apart from the HDMI input and HDMI output, you also have a gigabit ethernet port. Acer also offers 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 inside the PC. There are three USB 3.1 Type-A ports with two on the left side and one on the backside. The PC also comes with a full-sized SD card reader located conveniently on the side. There is also a 3.5mm headphones jack. On top of all these, you have a USB-C 3.1 Type-C port as well. Combining all these along with wireless charging feature of the base, S24 can just work as a powerful docking station.
The pricing
At present, Acer Aspire S24 comes with just one size and configuration and flaunts a price tag of $879.99. Though this is still cheaper than Apple’s all-in-one iMac, the later is a more powerful option for the buyer. The useful Qi wireless charging is something that makes it stand out.
The wrap:
The Aspire S24 comes with a compact footprint, a thin aesthetically appealing display panel and fairly balanced specs seems to throw some really competitive value. But it is still not a best in class PC within an ambitious price range as this.
