Samsung Galaxy S8 Set to Release This Year
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is said to be one of the most powerful, stylish and all around accomplished smartphones on the market. It was almost everything we hoped for, with improvements throughout. People expected a Samsung Galaxy S8 at the big CES 2017 that happened a few weeks ago. But there was no sign of it. Samsung released TVs, fridges, speakers, Chromebooks and much more, but there was no mention of a good, new flagship.
A Pair of Galaxy S8
According to someone who is accustomed to the company’s strategy said Samsung is preparing to reveal a pair of Galaxy S8 smartphones significantly different from other models from the past.
Samsung’s mobile communications vice president, Lee Jae-Yong said that the new Galaxy S8 will feature slick design and an improved camera, as well as an enhanced artificial intelligence service. If rumors are to be believed there may even be two of those.
Push Into VR
Samsung may make two versions of the Galaxy S8 next year, but both will come with curved screens. Both the models are codenamed Dream and Dream 2. Samsung is making a big push into VR with its Gear VR headset and one thing it really needs to make the most of that is sharp screens on its phones. Samsung will push the resolution up for the Samsung Galaxy S8, perhaps as high as 4K.
Because of their unusual size, their aspect ratio is 18.5:9 which slightly deviates from the industry-standard 16:9. As both models sport Samsung’s edge display, which curves downward on both sides of the handset.
The Android Nougat-powered phones may include different systems-on-chip depending on sales region so Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 in some and Samsung Exynos in others. All will have processors made using 10-nanometer fabrication methods. When it comes to performance, this is said to make them 11 percent faster than the Galaxy S7 overall, with 23 percent faster graphics processing, but still 20 percent more energy efficient.
Quick Download Speed
Qualcomm’s latest modem, Snapdragon X16 is built on a 14nm manufacturing process and supports “fibre-like” LTE Cat. 16 download speeds. That’s significantly superior to the X12 modem built into the Snapdragon 820 chip. The Snapdragon X12 modem supports 600Mbps download speeds. But the Snapdragon X16 can handle incredible downlink speeds of up to 1Gbps, which means a 4K movie could be downloaded in just over 13 minutes. And a Blu-ray movie, which is of around 20GB, could be downloaded in a quarter of that time.
While internally the 4GB of RAM remains unchanged from the past few models, 64GB is the new baseline when it comes to internal storage, supported by a 256GB-capable microSD slot.
Reportedly, the main camera possesses a new visual search functionality, with icons appearing on screen that allows the user to indicate the type of search to be performed. And the front-facing camera is another sensor in the S8 with the same iris-scanning capability that debuted in the Galaxy Note7.
Harman Kardon Speakers
Samsung plans to equip the Galaxy S8 with dual speakers and stereo sound, built by – and branded with the logo of – Harman. There haven’t been any rumors specifically regarding the battery life of the phone and waterproofing in the Samsung Galaxy S8 just yet.
Samsung’s version of the Google Assistant known as Bixby is said to be able to handle more complex commands than its competitors. It is launched by a dedicated button on the side of the devices. Bixby will also reportedly be a lot more advanced than Samsung’s S-Voice and will work systemwide. The rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be priced at $850 and the phone is set to launch in the end of April.
