Lenovo Yoga 730: The Latest Lenovo Convertible with Lot of Value Additions
The quest for better design in laptops is still on like their mobile counterparts. This year just like the smartphones the focus has been on trimming the bezel. The latest Lenovo Yoga 730 which is a refreshment of the previous year’s Yoga 720 follows this principle.
But if you think just trimming the bezel is all that maters to this latest Lenovo laptop you are terribly wrong. Apart from a slimmer and bezel-free design, the laptop has updated the processor to the cutting edge 8th Gen Intel Core processor. As for the exterior design, the laptop body is a bit slanted allowing a more comfortable hold while holding with hands.
Design and screen
The new Lenovo Yoga update came with 13.3-inch LCD touchscreen with both HD and Ultra-HD resolution options as per the user preference. It comes with 5.9mm bezel on the left and right side of the screen for the 13” model and 6.5mm bezel on both sides for the 15” model. It is a convertible with a 360-degree hinge allowing you to manoeuvre the laptop in different angles and use modes including tent, stand and tablet modes.
The laptop comes with 2x USB-C (Thunderbolt 3), 1x USB 3.0 and 1x 3.5mm jack. The laptop comes in two precise colours, respectively as Iron Grey and Platinum Silver. It has an integrated fingerprint scanner. It comes with a dimension of 307 x 216 x 14.1mm and weighs 1.12kgs. As a whole, the design seems a lot similar to its predecessor Yoga 720. The laptop weighs quite lightweight and looks easy to handle.
The screen of the laptop makes the most important difference for the laptop. The screen on both the models comes as bigger with less bezel covering the front but still both needs to catch up with the Dell XPS 13 and the Huawei MateBook X Pro. In spite of the slim bezel on both sides, the bezel at the bottom remains the same bigger as the previous version.
Power and performance
The new Yoga 730 laptop is powerfully built with state of the art specs on all fronts. It is powered by an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with integrated H620 graphics. To give more power to the processing, it comes with 16GB RAM. The laptop had 512GB inbuilt SSD storage. As for audio output, it offers full support to JBL Speakers and Dolby Atmos headphone. It comes with impressive battery power that lasts as long as 11 hours at a stretch. The laptop is also compatible with Alexa digital assistant for smart voice controls.
There are few differences in respect of specs between the 13” and the 15” model of the Yoga 730. The latest 8th Gen Intel Core i processors that can be upped up to i7 is a clear attribute of both the models. But while graphics are integrated and comes packed with the 13-inch model, you have the option of integrating Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 with 15” model.
When it comes to performance, the new model upped several aspects of the previous model and is quite smooth and efficient in performing all tasks. The most important and interesting upgrade of the laptop is the software upgrade with the inbuilt support of Amazon Alexa as part of the Windows 10 setup. So when you want to interact with many devices with voice commands through the digital assistant, you have the inbuilt support built in. When you have an if Echo device at home, or any other smart home products in the interior, the inbuilt Alexa support will provide further support for smart interactions.
The audio output is superb when tested with the JBL approved speakers. The only down side is the position of the speakers at the underside which interferes with the clarity of the sound.
Pricing and availability
This well packaged Lenovo laptop with an array of enhancements from the previous model doesn’t come cheap. For the US market the price of the 13-inch Yoga 730 starts from $880, and for the 15-inch model, the price starts from $900. Both the laptop is likely to hit the market in April this year.
By far this Lenovo laptop has come as the most value-added upgrade from its predecessor launched previous year. Even after the launch of the Huawei MateBook X Pro, it is supposed to throw enough competition to the other brands struggling for a market share.
